From
the makers of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi
Khushi Kabhi Gham comes another heart warming film
of human emotions.
Twenty
three year old Naina Catherine Kapur (Preity Zinta)
comes from a mixed race of both Christian and Punjabi
ancestors in Kal Ho Naa Ho.
She
lives with her six year old sister Gia and grandmother
Lajjo.
Whilst
coming to terms with her father’s suicide, she is forced
to act as a referee to the ever escalating arguments
between her mother, Jennifer and her grandmother.
But
that is not all she has to cope with.
From
getting her crippled brother and adopted sister ready
every morning, she also helps her mother to run their
financially ailing delicatessen.
She goes through each one of her roles without batting
an eyelid.
Each day resigning herself more to what she feels is
her destiny, until Aman Mathur (Shah Rukh Khan) enters
her life.
Like
a breath of fresh air, he moves into their tiny neighborhood
and into their lives.
With
an honest and friendly nature, Aman lives life for the
moment. But Naina hates him to the hilt.
Anticipating
her every move, pre-empting her every thought, nothing
bothers Aman.
He
constantly pushes her to do things that she would never
have done. But things that she always dreamt of doing.
Gradually,
Aman wins her over. He gives her the strength to start
living life to the fullest and the courage to fall in
love.
The
only thing he cannot give her is his love.
Heartbroken
and defenceless, Naina decides to go back to her old
life. The life she was so used to living.
Aman,
however has different plans. Having succeeded in making
Naina smile, he refuses to let her slip back into her
ordinary, dreary life.
He
decides to make her fall in love again. But this time
with someone who can love her back.
So
onto the scene enters Rohit Patel (Saif Ali Khan), a
young executive from Manhattan with an extrovert character.
But
deep down, he is a simple guy secretly in love with
his classmate, Naina Catherine Kapur. Aman,
soon gets to know about this.
So
to bring these two friends together, he promises to
overcome any hurdles which may arise in order to achieve
his goals.
By
lying and twisting the truth, he manages to full fill
his dream.
But soon his lies become apparent to Naina and a shocking
truth is exposed.
Nikhil
Advani makes his directorial debut in Kal Ho Naa
Ho.
He
gained invaluable experience as associate director,
during the making of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai followed
by K3G.
It
was reported that Neetu Singh was approached by Karan
Johar to play Priety Zinta’s mother in Kal Ho Naa Ho.
But
as she declined the offer, the role went to Karan ‘s
most favourite actress, Jaya Bachchan.
Musical
score for the film is provide by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy
and lyrics by Javed Akhtar.
The
film will release in the UK on 28th November 2003 by
Yash Raj Films. It’s a film about love and friendship.
Another
blockbuster Kal Ho Naa Hb by Darma Productions is predicted
at the UK box office upon its release!
